The scheme is within a defined area at Southwick Police Station Sunderland.
The works involve internal demolition and remodelling of an existing custody suite area alongside selected cell refurbishment (some cells have been subject to a previous refurbishment phase).
New rooms to be created include interview rooms, holding rooms and charge desk facilities
During the initial preparation and surveying of the works there will be a decant phase with limited access whilst the station will be used for police operations as facilities are refurbished elsewhere.
The project involves internal demolitions, construction of internal brickwork and insitu concrete floors; formation of a single storey extension with sloping timber roof over a concrete deck to form a new holding room, in the service yard adjacent to the existing van dock; erection and reposition of internal partition walls; and all ceiling, wall and floor finishes; decorations
The works also require all associated building services and specialist mechanical and electrical services.
There are several areas of structural alteration and several areas of significant oversized and heavy component removal
The building is to be in full occupation throughout.
